How can I make my pool less attractive to birds?

Anyone have experience in getting rid of birds from around your house? I have an above ground pool and within the last few days a bunch of blackbirds have decided the ledge is a perfect place to poop.

I’ve watched them land, poop, and fly off. They are not eating or drinking at the ledge or from the pool, which is highly clorinated at the moment.

I’ve googled and found some answers, but I don’t really want to put pinwheels on the pool ledge (looks tacky IMHO) or use “scare stickers”. I was thinking a plastic owl, but not sure how effective they are.

Oh, and I’m in the 'burbs surrounded by other houses, so I can’t perch out a window with a pellet gun… much to my dismay.

I did have good luck with a laser pointer when I had pigeons on my appt balcony, but I would rather a long-lasting and passive approach to my pool gone to the birds.

I’d go with the plastic owl.

Or buy a pellet gun.

Or fill the pool with 'gators (It might be a tad cold in Ontario, though- but it works in SC !!)

oops - note to self - read ENTIRE post first - nix the pellet gun!

Assuming (passive approachwise) that you don’t want to wire a large saucer filled with antifreeze to a branch or pop them with a pellet gun you might try this.

A few Turkish Vans ought to do it.

Rats! Put rats in your pool! Birds don’t like rats.

Get a cat. We have two cats and no small living animals near our house.
However, there are at least three dead animals brought to our house each day. Right now there is a chipmunk’s guts on our front porch.

I have a cat and the birds just LOVE to come to the railing on the balcony and tweet tweet tweet at the cat. She’s killed a few but they still come and crap all over the railing. So I guess it depends on the birds. I’ve got pigeons with the occaisional cardinal.

My Grandpa used to use a stuffed snake. But the floating gator sounds like a good idea.

Lousy flying rats!

You could put a tarp over the ledge so the birds crap on that instead.

You can set glue traps to try and catch the little buggers (“Four-and-twenty blackbirds baked in a pie”… Mmmm… ;))

I think the gator thing is cool, though. IM-rather-HO, that is
