How Can I Sort Out Public Domain Music for My Video?

OK, I want to make a couple of Youtube videos, and I want to go legit on them. No copyrighted music. So I need to find some public domain/copyright free stuff. Problem is, there’s a ton of it out there to listen to. So how do I sort out the wheat from the chaff without spending hour after hour listening to people noodle around on keyboards and whatnot?

Anybody know of any other way to carve my way through this stuf? I’m looking for soundtracks for two videos: one would be an upbeat, happy tune, kind of a J-Pop thing (I wonder what the deal is with J-Pop and copyright)?

The other requires a dramatic score, kind of a B-movie sword and sandal thing, I’m thinking hard of using Rimsky-Korsakov’s Scherezade if I can find a pubic domain version. But I’m open to an alternate. Just no belly dance music, wouldn’t fit at all.

Any ideas, Dopers?

The easiest thing to do is just use the music YouTube provides, if their system handles what you need. If not, at least look at the selection and use those songs. Be sure to indicate that you used those songs in the appropriate place, as some of them aren’t actually public domain, but just free to use on YouTube.

It’s probably the easiest way. I’ll check around, I forget that Youtube has public domain music. I hope it does not suck. Thanks!

LOL

I did that for a video and I got a take down notice. It took me two days of emailing before I convinced YouTube I was using THERE music, THEY said was in the PD
