Twice before I have blocked the number she sent from, and yet I got another text today. Does she have some federal power to override my number blocking? Because it’s not official business, it’s campaign solicitation. Maybe she has a hundred numbers she texts from so if one is blocked it just moves on to the next number.
Unfortunately I haven’t written down any of the numbers I blocked, so I can’t tell if it’s the same number or a different one each time.
I suspect that’s it. They found a good, working number for you and shared it among those hundred numbers. It seems stupid to me because it only pisses people off, doesn’t it, making them less cooperative?
By any chance was there a link to contribute directly from your phone?
Do you remember the content of the text?
There’s always the chance it was actually a scammer.
The texts are fairly general, about how the Democrats stand to lose control of the Senate and/or House and so they need money for their campaigns.
I haven’t read any of them all the way down, so maybe there was a contribution link, and maybe there was a STOP option. If I get another one, I will try to remember to check for these things, after the steam stops coming out of my ears.
I am not even a registered Democrat, so I don’t know why they think I’m a good target for this.
From the pelosiforcongress.org website, “User Opt Out: If you do not wish to continue participating in the Program or no longer agree to these Terms, you agree to reply “STOP,” “QUIT,” “END,” “CANCEL,” “UNSUBSCRIBE,” or “STOP ALL” to any mobile message from us in order to opt out of the Program. You may receive an additional mobile message confirming your decision to opt out. Alternatively, you may opt out of the Program by sending an email to info@pelosiforcongress.org. You understand and agree that the foregoing options are the only reasonable methods of opting out. You also understand and agree that any other method of opting out, including, but not limited to, texting words other than those set forth above or verbally requesting one of our employees to remove you from our list is not a reasonable means of opting out.”
I got a text solicitation from my vet the other day, and responded with STOP, and even though it wasn’t mentioned in the original text, there was an auto-response of “we’ve taken you off our list”. Well worth a try.
All politicians’ campaigns do this, along with bombarding you with emails. Some are legit, others are scam attempts. They never seem to understand that the more they bother you, the less likely you are to vote for them. I’ve been fighting off Val Demmings (whoever the hell she is) for several months. They must have hundreds of phone numbers and email addresses that just keep churning this shit out no matter how many times you tell them to knock it off.
I’m curious where you found that, I looked everywhere I could think of and didn’t see anything except a completely different statement under “Privacy.”
I don’t think it is solicitation for her own campaign, and I’m not in her district. It seems to be more related to her role as a leader in the party. Anyway, I will try using STOP next time. I should have thought of that myself, except I was so flummoxed by her ability to keep reaching me when I thought I had her blocked.
This is the default setting. Replying STOP, UNSUBSCRIBE, END, QUIT or CANCEL to any unsolicited automated text message should elicit an appropriate response.
Why not contact her office directly and ask them to take you out of their database altogether ? They must have someone in overall charge of such operations.
Only if it’s a ‘legit’ text. If it’s a scammer, you’ve just confirmed it’s a working phone # with someone who actually reads their texts; expect to get a lot more. I’ve always learned to never reply to an unsolicited text (or email) like this.
If I were a scammer I’d pretend to be someone legit (like the IRS, DOJ, major politician, or automobile extended warranty provider) in hopes of getting you to give money for what I want you to believe is a legit purpose. If my relentless and slippery tactics ended up pissing you off and/or spoiling a candidate’s, or party’s, election chances I really wouldn’t give a toss.
Is it actually from “her” or is it from someone campaigning for her? Something that’s been going on for a few elections now is each volunteer will send out texts one by one from their own number. This side steps rules against robocalls/texts AND makes it so you can tell them not to text/call you anymore, but there’s a dozen other people in the office and you haven’t told them not to text/call you yet.
I’ve gotten texts from time to time. I’ve replied STOP and they stopped (other than acknowledging my Stop message.
Politicians and legitimate companies will do this because there’s no reason to piss off a voter/customer. Scammers will continue to send the messages because they don’t care if they piss you off.
You say this, but they continue to do it knowing full well people don’t like it. Was it Pelosi that said she was going to crack down on the FCC to figure out a solution to all the unwanted texts and calls? If it was her, she must know how much people dislike them so why does her team use that method? Even if they’re (politicians) legally allowed to, it doesn’t mean we like it.
I’d be thrilled to get through an election season without feeling like I want to change my number.
