Okay here’s the problem. I wanna call my friend in Turkey who has a cellphone (or mobile phone). The thing is, I would like to pay as minimal amount as possible.
Now I’m not really a teckie - so I’m not exactly up on how to call my bud using the web. Any ideas?
Thing is I have 24 hour free access to a set of public computer systems. If I install some sort of program that allows me to talk it would be erased (or wiped off the central computer terminal’s memory) straight after I logged out.
I would really like to make use of my free internet access.
I am only responding because over in MPSIMS there is a dying thread called “More Threads Most Likely to be Closed.” A close approximation of your thread title is about 5th on the list.
I don’t know why this thread would be a candidate for closure; it not illegal to use the internet to make phone calls (it’s called VOIP), and I don’t see anything unethical about using a public computer to place a phone call, it’s not like the computer gets charged for it.
In answer to the OP, try www.iconnecthere.com, you can use a computer to call mobile phones in Turkey for .33 a minute. You do have to install some software on the computer, and sign up for their service, which can be a monthly fee, or by the minute. I don’t know of any way you can do it for free.
are two other popular services. With dialpad you don’t even need to download any software, you can just logon to their website and call. However, these services are not free. You have to pay some amount ($10-25). The calling rates are cheaper than using normal phones.
US to Turkey mobile is 29 cents (landline is 19 cents) through dialpad. If you purchase the dialpad calling card, you get the same low rates and don’t even need a PC.
Note that it usually costs more to call a mobile phone than a landline when using these services.
And I second Fear Itself in that there is nothing illegal or unethical in what the OP wishes to do.
