how can this be?

I’m not quoting the Book, I’m quoting what religions’ offical stances are. According to at least the RC’s, being gay isn’t a sin, it’s only doing those gay things. If a priest is gay and celibate, it oughtn’t make a difference.

I take it you believe the Bible to be inerrant?

If so, I’d be mighty careful about accusing other people of logical inconsistency, if I were you.

I say that with complete seriousness. I have a personal
relationship with God and let him into my daily life. Many years ago, He revealed part of his plan for me. It is my sacred duty to tell the world-** God does NOT care if you are gay!**

The prohibitions of Leviticus were likely written by Jewish elders to prevent the assimilation of Jews into Hellenic society. A Jew who follows the 613 mitzvot could not-

Exercise naked
Drink wine made by non-Jews
Eat any food prepared in an unkosher kitchen
and many others

This prevented Jewish teenagers from going to parties at gentiles houses. After all they couldn't eat the food, drink the wine, play the games or participate in any orgies. Thus, their social interactions were largely with other Jews and a separate cultural identity was maintained.

I wear a yarmulke and keep kosher. In high school, some of the kids called me "the rabbi". I don't write this as someone who only follows the commandments they find convenient. Certain moral standards must be adhered to for sex not be sinful:all parties should be consenting adults, seduction through deception is wrong, if you are in a committed relationship you must remnain faithful to that partner. Your partner's gender does not matter.

I would also point out that "The Bible says." is not the same as "God says."
