This thread is funny to me, because a few times, the garbage collector threw our trash cans into the truck along with the trash for no good reason at all.

I’d be careful about putting trash in apartment complex dumpsters, though. They get pretty ticked off about people doing that, plus in many cities it’s illegal.
When I had to get rid of my no-longer-raccoon-proof can, I duct taped the lid shut and left a note. “Please take the whole can.”
It worked the first try.
