and on the same lines…what keeps cat/dog hair from growing past a certain length? human head hair is the only hair I can thing of that grows indefinetly.
I screwed up the topic question I meant to ask was, why does body hair not grow as LONG as head hair
My understanding of this is that hair does not stop growing but has a lifespan and when it it used up it falls out. Body hair has a shorter lifespan than head hair so does not reach the length head hair does.
I don’t know the answer to your question but I like your user name. I used to play Blind Eye in a band. Cool band, not sure whatever happened to them.
Bill Door is right. All your hair grows at the same rate (roughly) but body hair falls out after a certain length. Same with dogs - their genetics determines how long or short their hair grows before falling out.
The Master covered this already.
I can’t seem to find a cite on it, but as I understand, women’s hair grows to a longer maximum length on average than men’s does-- but there’s also quite a bit of variation between individuals.

I suspect body hair falls out at some age. Try shaving a patch on your arm and watch it grow out to about the length of the areas around the shaved patch.
Finger nails grow slower than hair and toenails are really slow growing. No cite just observation as to how often you need a hair cut, manicure, and pedicure and how much length has to be removed.
