That’s the same thing I was thinking.
We already have this type of store and while they seem to do okay and stay in business they certainly don’t do the level of business that other big-box retailers do.
I wouldn’t argue they market entirely to men, either - I outfitted almost my whole kitchen with one trip to Canadian Tire. I got a 20-piece set of every known kind of spatula and wooden spoon for 20$.
As a Wisconsinite living in Ottawa, I can say with some authority that yes, Canadian Tire is quite similar to Fleet Farm/Farm and Fleet, only without the clothing and with less of a farming focus.
I just want to take a moment to personally thank GingerOfTheNorth for taking me to a Canadian Tire up in Lethbridge.
It was like a Lowe’s, a Fleet Farm, a grocery store, an RCC western wear store, and a machine shop all in one. If they had them down here, I would schedule a week’s vacation time to live in one: they have sleeping bags for me to crash in the aisle, foodstuffs to keep me fed, and tools to keep me gleefully occupied. And what’s better, is that it’s Canadian!
Thank you, Gingy, and thank you Canada!

In the West and particularly up North, there is clothing to be found at Crappy Tire.
Thanks, eh.
