It’s 12:22 right now. I just now realized that it’s the 59th anniversary of the bombing of Pearl Harbor. I knew about it ahead of time, but I never even thought about it today until just now when a co-worker reminded me. How come? I know I can’t be expected to remember every date in history all the time, but you’d think I could remember the large ones, huh?
No other threads on this? Nothing? Three weeks ago we had so many political threads coming out of this forum, the wazoo was full and we were trying to stuff the rest into a place the sun don’t shine. Today? Nothing.
I suppose I’ve just started one, but what the hell do I know? I can’t even remember a simple date in history. Surprised at what others don’t know? No, I’m surprised at what I’ve forgotten.
yojimbo– I think the new Pearl Harbor movie doesn’t open until the end of May (Memorial Day here in the USA). I saw a preview for it a couple of weeks ago.
I took me a little time to notice the date today, too. But when I saw it was Pearl Harbor Day I came here to see if there had been any worthwile posts…
I guess it’s easy to forget, more’s the pity. It was two generations ago for most here. It was for me. But I still remember my history.
I am looking forward to the movie but I hope it’s not just seen as a big action blockbuster but a reminder of how unprepared we were and the sacrifices that were made. I’m not a super emotional person but visiting the Arizona memorial when I was in the navy was a profound experience for me.
