How come no comment on Starbucks mass closures?

Starbucks- the Coffee Chain many love to hate- is closing most of it’s Australian and international stores along with 600 stores in the US. Something like 12,000 people are going to lose their jobs as a result.

Brief story from the Australian Broadcasting Corporation.

Yet the silence on the boards here is deafening. There’s a thread elsewhere here in CS mourning the bankruptcy of a restaurant chain I’ve never heard of, but Starbucks closes most of its cafes and no-one notices or cares?

Given how many people seem to hate the place, I would have thought there would be at least one gloating OP on the boards somewhere, but a search has turned up nothing.

I like Starbucks coffee, and I’m annoyed that they’re closing all their stores outside Brisbane, Melbourne, and Sydney. Gloria Jeans have ties to the Hillsong Church in Sydney so I refuse to buy from them and most of the cafes around here serve either Trendy-sized cups or their coffee is, frankly, shit. McDonalds does better coffee IMHO, and there’s something wrong with that when the two best coffee places in the area are Starbucks and Maccas…

So, how come the complete lack of comment on the boards about Starbucks closing so many stores?

Commenting being done here in MPSIMS.

Thanks for the link- I wonder why it didn’t turn up in a search?

That thread is mainly focused on Australia, though- there are 600 cafes closing in the US as well, yet no one seems to have noticed/cared, which seems unusual for this board…

Six hundred stores may sound like a lot, but it’s a fraction of the total number (Wikipedia says that there are about 6,700 corporate-owned stores and 3,800 joint-venture stores in the US).

The Daily Show did a joke on this. They noted that a certain store in midtown Manhattan would be closing. Forcing people to walk a whole block north to the next Starbucks. Or a whole block south to another Starbucks. Or… and then they gave a map studded with Starbucks outlets, still showing only a small portion of midtown Manhattan.

That’s why there’s no comment. Who’s even going to notice?

The economy goes south and people for some reason don’t want to pay four dollars for coffee. I’m shocked I tell you. Shocked.

I wonder why more people don’t commment on the way that buying whole-bean coffee is seeming to become more of an afterthought than the reason these stores exist, any more.

Since there’s already a thread going in MPSIMS, I’ll go ahead and close this one.
