(Come to think of it, this almost qualifies as a CS question. Almost. Oh, well.)
I happened to notice something, the other day, while watching the Military Channel…y’see, they had a special on OPFOR (Opposing Force) units (who train in foreign tactics/vehicles, and act as adversaries in training exercises) U.S. army, in particular the 11th Armored Cav Regiment in Fort Irwin.
Anyway, what grabbed my interest was that in the training scenario featured on the show, the “bad guys” were the fictional country of “Korona.” This wasn’t the first time I’d heard that name—Tom Clancy’s nonfiction “Carrier” book from a few years back has a chapter on a naval exercise on the east coast, which also had the Koronans as the enemy. A google search reveals at least a few more uses of the Koronans in military exercises over the years.
My questions are…how frequently ARE the Koronans “used,” by name, in training scenarios? Does anyone else (like other NATO countries) use the name? And…does Korona have any kind of “official” insignia (like flags, aircraft roundels, etc.) of itself, or do they just go with whatever the OPFOR markings were already?
I know, I know…it’s a silly question. But I’m curious.
