I just wanted to pop in and say thanks to everyone who has replied - my internet access is sporadic at the moment, but I am keeping an eye on this thread when possible.
I’m too old to have the vaccine, I believe (almost 31) and I’m not sure what the status of vaccinations is for men in the UK. However, I need to do some more research, clearly, before I can make up my mind what to do in this situation.
Damn you, STIs. Why do you have to go ruin something that could be so much more fun without? Also, damn you, pregnancy!
I have it, but haven’t been back to get my whatever-the-next-level test is to find out more about it. I am really bad about getting my paps done. I should really get on that. Hell, I don’t even have a gynecologist.
Thanks, but I think my son might curl up and die of embarrassment if I took him to a gynecologist.
I’ve been unhappy with his doc for a while now, and talking to him, so is he. So we’re going to do some calling around and find another doc in our system, and one of the questions we’ll ask before we change our PCP is if they’ll be willing to give him the vaccine.
I have no idea if I have it or not, but I probably do. My wife had an abnormal pap showing it about 8 years ago (though none since), and the doctor didn’t say anything about it being one of the more dangerous strains. I’m sure it transmitted to me. No issues for either my wife or me so far. Any disease which has an 80% infection rate in the general population and yet you never really hear much about it doesn’t cause a lot of worry in me. I know there can be complications, but no use freaking out about it. When my daughter is of the appropriate age, we’ll probably do the vaccine, provided she didn’t contract it at birth (which is rare, but from what I understand, possible).
I at least at one point had a pretty aggressive strain of cutaneous HPV, as I had horrible plantar warts for about 10 years, until, all of a sudden, over the course of 3 months, they completely disappeared, and have never returned.
