No body.
Basically, learning to correlate objects with words traced out by finger on the palm of her hand. One of many accounts here. However, she had at least some language skills before going blind and deaf at 19 months.
A person could sign with her & she would feel the hands of that person with her hands.
handy, I think he meant the actual learning process - it would be pretty difficult to learn if you couldn’t see or hear what your were being taught. But I think ray hit in dead on.
There is, of interest, a lengthy book quote here on Usenet partially debunking the usual Helen Keller story. After going deaf-blind, she was already able to communicate to some extent (“she … developed 60 or more quite sophisticated signs. To refer to her father, she would mime putting on a pair of glasses; her mother was indicated by tying up her hair; and ice cream became a shiver”) before the major breakthrough at age 6.
I enjoyed the links!
Thanks everyone.
Of course she had a body! Do you think she was a disembodied head floating around?
haha! Now that would be romantic.
Thanks for the laugh.
