I was doing a search and it came up somehow. I can’t remember what I searching for but someone’s spider thread popped up and I’ve been a fan ever since.
I’m another sent here from bored.com…ironically, I no longer need that site
My good friend withaK, got me hooked on it.
i was at another message board and someone posted the biggest vbulleten boards and saw this and checked it out
I overheard Mirrored Indigo Shadows talking about it to someone else and hassled her until she gave me the URL. Incredible that that was over three years ago.
Well, I was searching out minds of dreamers to terrorize in their sleep, when I encountered a particurly strong mind, that didn’t go insane at my presence. That mind belonged to a Cecil Adams. From there, I figured out where is board is from his mind, and decided to posses a human so as to post on this site. Just to pass the time, of course, until The Stars Are Right.
At the time, it was only a link or two off the Left Behind message boards. (I came a year or two after the whole “board war” thing.)
Loved the books during the 1980s (they’re rare and hard to get hold of via retail outlets here).
Come late 2000, I was messing around with this wondrous thing called the Internet, where it seemed that everything cool had a website. I put in a Yahoo search for Dave Barry – and found Cecil’s site quite by accident. Happy day!
Got up enough gumption to join the messageboard in Jan '01.
I have short-term memory problems and now, apparently, some long term memory problems. I honestly do no remember how I arrived here.
I do remember fleeing from a very unhealthy “spiritual” New Age forum that had some of the most mean-spirited people I have ever known.
I’ve known about the column since well before 1980, and I bought all the books when they came out. I got to the message board by going to the then-new website, where there was a link that invited you to “Post a question to our Teeming Millions…or perhaps Cecil himself”! Or something like that…
Anyways I think it was back in '98 or '99 when I got here.
I have no idea. My life did not begin until I arrived here. All that was before is gone.
Co-worker sent a link to one of Cecil’s articles he had, evidently, found hilarious. D’oh! I can’t for the life of me remember which one! (senility is creeeeping in! And I’ve only just turned 40!)
Spent about a month reading the articles old and new; then I noticed the boards. Spent another month or three lurking; then I actually decided to answer a post.
It’s all been downhill from there…
An online friend lurks here and she and I were talking one night when I mentioned I was bored, so she linked me. That was a year and 2000+ posts ago.
Exactly the same as the OP.
What are the chances of that?
(Probably quite high)
I had a question for Cecil about soap then I just started poking around the site.
Googled some bizzare question that took me to a Cecil answer on the SD page, found the archive and read everything. Followed a couple of thread-spottings (one was the ring-in-nose thread, LOL at work, had to hide in the support room to laugh it off) Then I found a thread “are scalar weapons for real?”. I had to join a (ahem) community, that could put so much smarts into being so stupid. Oh, and to fight ignorance, dammit.
I was a big fan of the compilation books, and a regular on alt.fan.cecil.adams on usenet. When the board moved from AOL (which I never had nor desired a membership in) to here, I jumped in.
I have been reading Cecil since 1991, but did not find the website until maybe 2000. I did not look at the message boards or threadspotting for a few years, though, just stuck to the articles.
Bingo!
I fell through a hole in time and woke up in Cecil’s bathtub. The rest, as they say, is history.
