For someone with essentially no experience… trying to save some money by doing it myself, and I always thought that air filters were one of the easier DIY maintenance activities, but some of the things I’m reading online are scaring me
I’d call it ‘Very Easy’ for a beginner and ‘Trivially Easy’ for a gearhead.

Great, thanks! Air filter ordered and I’ll tackle it this weekend!
Piece of cake. My ten year old daughter changed the one on my Mazda Protege (with my supervision of course). A few latches, cover comes off, take our old filter, pop in new one. Look at the old filter BEFORE removing it and put the new one in just like the old one. You’ll be fine.
It looks like your question has already been answered, but it’s worth nothing that it’s considerably more difficult to replace in the in-cabin air filter. It involves removing paneling the the passenger footwell to get behind the radio.
