Since the factual question seems to be factually answered, let’s move it to IMHO for… whatever this is that’s still going on here.
To those who may know more - does the sound of the turbulence interfere with echolocation and ever get them inadvertently in shallower more dangerous waters? Result in stranding more frequently?
The Wikipedia article on cetacean stranding shows that there are a number of hypotheses on what factors cause stranding, and rough weather is one (though the article doesn’t specify if it’s believed that the weather hampers their echolocation).
I’m no dolphin expert (although I encounter them frequently while surfing) I think most people fail to understand just how little effect activity on the surface has beneath the water.
