How do I add TV-out to a laptop?

I have a Toshiba Satellite laptop running XP. I also have Netflix, and would like to be able to watch the instant movies on my TV instead of the laptop screen. Are there PCMCIA cards to add TV out to laptops?

(I’m Googling it as well, but want your opinions on what works best. Plus, someone else might be wondering the same thing. Plus, I paid $14.95 to post here, so I might as well use it!)

The gpu inside a laptop can push S-Video if it has the necessary converting hardware to do so. Since yours does not, you would need a PCMCIA standalone gpu with S-Video output which does not exist as far as I can tell.

your best bet would be a VGA to S-Video converter such as this one. The video quality you’d end up with would be good VHS quality or thereabouts. Most definitely inferior to DVD quality.

Hope that helps.

If your TV has component video inputs (red/green/blue RCA connectors) you might be able to use something like this adapter cable.

Although this cable is primarily used to take component video and display it on a VGA monitor or projector, I see no reason it wouldn’t work in the other direction.
