I am trying to make a purchase from a website that accepts only Visa, Money Orders and Bitcoins. I have purchased from this site in the past using a MasterCard, which they no longer accept. No, I am NOT trying to purchase anything illegal. I would never do that.
I have read through some past threads here about Bitcoins, but I can’t make any sense out of it. Where and how do I purchase Bitcoins? I clearly have no idea what I’m doing.
Unless you can find someone you know to give you bitcoins in exchange for something else, you first have to set up a bitcoin wallet either on your own computer or on a website, buy the bitcoins from some sort of exchange, and then use your new bitcoins to pay the website. http://www.coindesk.com/information/how-can-i-buy-bitcoins/
But if I were you, I’d just get a prepaid Visa gift card at the grocery store and use that instead. Bitcoin is fraught with peril and it’s very easy to get scammed if you don’t know what you’re doing; that risk might be worthwhile if you think of it as an investment opportunity, but if you’re just using it because you don’t have a Mastercard… well, that’s a lot of trouble for no reason.
I found a site which claims to sell bitcoin, but you can only purchase using PayPal, and they require registration before you can even browse, so I bailed out there.
Given that the value of bitcoin depends on what the buyer and seller agree on, your purchase could cost 1 bitcoin unit today, 1.1 tomorrow and .9 the day after tomorrow.
