How do I disable my dial-up?

I recently switched to DSL and I am LOVING it. I don’t know how I ever did without it.

However, sometimes, when a page won’t load, or just at random, the pop up box for dialing up will pop up and I have to click cancel. It’s driving me nuts-anything I can do? I have Windows XP.

Control Panel -> Internet Options -> “Connections” tab -> Check the “Never dial a connection” radio button. Click OK.

Thank you so much. It got so that at one site I couldn’t even click to different pages without it popping up EVERY GODDAMNED TIME!!!

I was about ready to tear my hair out.

Welcome

Do you ever use dial up? If not, you could also just pull the phone cord out of the back of the computer.

It may still try to dial a connection - the pop-up box appears before it checks to see if the phone line is connected.

I wonder if deleting the dialup entry in the ‘network connections’ control panel section would help… though if the option from ‘internet options’ is working, then no big need to worry about it.

Unfortunatly, the dial-up adapter is needed for a couple of other things, one being if you ever want to do a wired connection between two computers. PPP (point to point protocol…login stuff mostly) is embedded in the dial-up adapter stuff. My experience is that windows will keep reloading it on start up if you delete it.
