How do I get a job as a festival organizer?

This year I was a co-director for the Texas Film Festival. I am also a mechanical engineering major.

I have over a year until I graduate, but I find the more time I spend in mechanical engineering classes, the less I am interested in getting a career as a mechanical engineer, and the more interested I am in being on the staff of a film festival.

However, I am not sure how likely or possible it is for me to get on the actual staff of a film festival (as opposed to being an unpaid volunteer, which I am sure is easy to get at a lot of places), and I am not sure how feasible it is to be a festival organizer as my sole career, instead of something to just do on the side.

Does anyone have any advice, or know where I can find some? I know a million places that would give me information on getting an engineering job, but I don’t know where to read about festival organizing.

While working on a film festival is what I have done previously and what I would be most interested in, I would also maybe be willing to work on a music or other type of festival.

Any advice or information would be greatly appreciated.
