Oooookay, so I’ve downloaded some Napster songs. I want to burn a CD and make a mix. I have a CDRW so that’s the first step. Second question - do I need some software?
Can anyone recommend a particular one? And is there any freeware version?

Unless you have a cdplayer that plays mp3s, you’ll need to convert the files to wav format before burning. If you’re using winamp, select the “diskwriter” (or is it “file output”?) output plugin then play the mp3s.
Those wav files can be then be burned to cd with normal cdburner software (which should have come with your cdr or computer).
Assuming that you are talking about songs that are legal to download from napster… as in music that the author has given permision to distribute this way(there actually are quite a few artists/groups who have given permision…Motley Crue and phish come to mind…as well as some unsinged artists), you can burn them straight out of Adaptec EZ CD Creator 4. Just tell it to create an audio CD, and just ad the MP3 files as tracks to the CD. it will then burn an audio cd from the MP3 files. Don’t know about freeware, as EZcd creater came with my cdr, I never bothered looking for one.
The latest Adaptec converts it for you.
Good software that you can download from the net is Musicmatch Jukebox, they have a free version that you can use that doesn’t have some of the extras that the pay version does (you can’t get it to print up a cover for your new cd for one). But it’s very easy to use, you just select the MP3s you want to burn and click the create cd button. It will not only tell you how much room you have on the cd (so you can add or subtract songs), but will convert it to .wav format for you before it burns it. No extra steps for you.

IIRC the latest (free download from MS )version of the Windows Media Player 7.0 is bundled with an adaptec module that can burn a CD off of an mp3 collection.
