How do I get internet in a room where powerline adapters and wifi won't work

There is an addition added to a house, and because of that powerline adapters (for whatever reason) do not work when put in that room although they work in other rooms w/o issue. Not only that but the room was added where the chimney is, so now there is a large brick chimney between the media center and the router, so the wireless router doesn’t seem to get wifi in there. I don’t know if that is just due to it being a weak router or the chimney though, but this area is about 40 feet from the router and I can get wifi easily 40 feet from the router when the chimney isn’t directly in the line of transmission. So what other options are there if someone wants to add netflix online to a media center but can’t use the current wifi setup or powerline adapter kits?

I guess I could drill holes in the floor and run ethernet cable from a powerline kit in another room, but I’d rather not do that. What other options are there?

Can I put an amplifier somewhere else in the house so signals can go around the chimney, and travel at an angle instead of a straight line between the device and the router? How much do those cost and how much are they to set up?

Would a stronger router make a difference?

What you want is called a “wifi repeater”. Just place it somewhere in the house that is close to the addition but will not be in line of sight with the chimney. They aren’t too expensive. I’m thinking maybe 50 bucks or so but I haven’t priced them recently.

In my experience N class and MIMO routers have much better performance than G routers in overcoming interior obstacles.

My church actually pushes its Internet from one whole building to another using an external wifi antenna. As long as they have line of sight, it works. And this was before G came out.

Apparently it just amplifies the signal.
