I just got my laptop back from the repair place, where they had re-installed Vista on it. It’s a Dell Inspiron 1720 laptop with a touchpad; for the past year I’ve been using it, I’ve been able to scroll with the far right side of the touchpad. It’s a great feature and I’m very used to it. Now all of a sudden it doesn’t fucking work anymore and I’m at my wit’s end trying to figure it out. I can’t figure out how to adjust the touchpad settings; I can’t figure out a website to download a driver from; I can’t find a single page or forum discussion with answers that aren’t complete programmer-speak. Could someone please, PLEASE help me get this feature working again?
Have you tried to download the driver from Dell’s website? Go to http://support.dell.com, enter the service tag or express service code and the appropriate drivers will be listed.
Here are the synaptics touchpad drivers for your unit
Just go to dell support > drivers and and enter your machine model #
Start by going to Control Panel (sorry, no idea how to get there on Vistavision), then open the applet for your pointing device (it may just be “Mouse”) and see if it’s just been turned off.
If you really do need to reinstall a driver, Dell’s website is, in my experience, exhaustive when it comes to drivers. Go to support.dell.com, click Drivers & Downloads, enter your service tag number, and go from there.
