I’ve been developing and idea for a new non-alcoholic beverage that I think would receive decent sales and make me a little famous if it ever went nationwide. The problem is that I don’t really know where to begin in getting it to market. I can’t get into the specifics of the drink, other than it would contain a unique (previously unused) ingredient, and would be consumed more for novelty value rather than any medicinal effect. But there would have to be research in the feasibility of even using the said ingredient, as well as finding a supplier. Then there are advertising and distribution hurdles.
It seems like the best option for me would be to pitch this idea to a smaller beverage company and see where it goes from there. But what precautions can I take to make sure they don’t steal the idea from me during the pitch? I don’t think you can patent recipes, which I would need help developing anyway. Do you Dopers have any advice?
