My band is about to go on a small tour starting off in Chicago and ending up in Baltimore. Whenever we do these little jags, we usually just rent a car because it’s affordable - for a small fraction of what we make on tour, we can pay for a nice, efficient vehicle to hit all the dates (we’re an electronic act, so all of our gear fits in the trunk…no trailer full of drum kits and guitar amps for us!).
But this time, it’s different - due to a few factors (we can’t return the car to where we’re picking it up, we have a few off dates in between shows so the rental time is stretching out longer, we’re crossing more state lines), we’re looking at about $500 for the rental. Ouch!
So what can we do to creatively save some cash on this? We’ve already found that renting a car in Chicago, dropping it off in Ohio, picking up a new one in Ohio and dropping it off in Baltimore will save us about $100, which seems absurd, but whatever. What else can we do? Any thoughts or suggestions?
