How do I go about applying for a job that I learned of on the "hush-hush"

So GrizzWife tells me the other day that she learned of an job for which I’m well qualified and in which I’m surely interested.
Interested in that the new position would pay 1.5 times what I currently earn.
She learned of it through the accountant who does work for her company. He also does work at Company X where he spied an internal memo outlining the job and salary.

So, without giving up the name of the accountant or how I learned of the job in the first place; how do I go about letting Company X know that I’m interested?

Oh, sure, I could do a cold-call resume and letter to human resources. But I’d like a better foothold.

Any suggestions?

Call up their HR department and ask where they usually post new positions, or if they have any positions available. You shouldn’t have to give a name to get this info over the phone. If they seem open to the prospect, go ahead and give them any info you think might help. If they’re playing hard-to-get, then give them the bare minimum, get your info, and go about applying like anyone else would.

Could your wife give your resume to the accountant? Maybe his company has a recruitment bonus and he’ll really appreciate it.
