For what it’s worth, I’m guessing I do. It’s a fairly new Athlon 3000 PC, the modem is a Conexant SoftK56 internal modem, and there’s no supporting documentation for it. I’ve run through Google looking for information, I’ve downloaded the latest modem driver update recommended by Windows Update, and I’ve tried querying the modem via the properties box.
Nothing has appeared to confirm it. Anyone know how I can check?
Did you check Conexant’s site. Every soft modem they list has V.92 capability so chances are yours does too. If you can take the modem out and get a part number (unless it’s integrated to the motherboard) you can check the link for it.
Actually, if you’ve queried the modem in the properties box it should tell you what it’s capabilities are. When I query my modem on the COM5 port I see this on one of the AT17 (in the Command column) lines:
Err, now that I think about it, soft modems get their capabilities from the driver, not an onboard chip, so querying the modem may be futile. In Device Manager on the Driver tab for the modem, what company is listed by Provider? That would be who you need to contact about the capabilities of their driver.
I can hopefully check on Tuesday - the only reason I’m asking is that my ISP has launched V.92 support and I’d quite like the modem on-hold feature, but can’t tell if I can use it. I’ve ordered it for Tuesday.
Looking at the search results on that page, it looks like the v.90/v.92 will be determined entirely by the driver. Go download the latest drivers from the manufacturer and you should be OK.
