How do I know if my SATA hard drive is Serial ATA 150 or SATA 3.0Gb/s?

I need to but a new SATA hard drive. I was looking on New Egg’s web site and it gave me two options: one for Serial ATA 150 and one for SATA 3.0Gb/s. I didn’t realize that two different types of SATA existed. I have an ASUS A7N8X-Deluxe motherboard. I looked it up on ASUS’s website but I still couldn’t figure it out. So which type of SATA hard drive do I need to buy and since when where there two different types?

It looks like your mobo’s chipset supports only SATA I drives. So that’s what you should look at getting. Some SATA II drives also have a SATA 1 jumper position and will work on your setup as well, though you’d be paying more for no benefit.

SATA II came out in like 2004, I think.
