How do I move a fridge?

Is there some way for me to move a standard size fridge (66x28x33 or so) without renting a UHaul? I’ve heard that putting the fridge on the side will cause problems because the oil will leak out. So I can’t use my friend’s SUV. I don’t know anyone with a pickup truck, so I guess I might be out of luck.

Hello there, I have a problem I had to move a fridge a long way in heavy traffic and had to lay it down. when I got home and waited 24 hours it would not get cold. the fan and compressor are working but it does not get cold. do you have any suggestion that I might try. I 'm a pretty good do it yourselfer. I would like to try to fix it my self. I have unplugged it and waited 24 hours again but no luck. please help,

It sounds to me like you have an oil saturated gas dryer. I know of no other way to repair it other than replacement of this device.

Unfortunately this is not a problem you can deal with unless you’re certified by the EPA to handle refrigerants and have the equipment to do so.

It depends on hwo far you’re moving it. If it’s under a block, you could rent a refrigerator dolly from a hardware store ($7.00 US) and roll it down the street.

Any farther and you’ll need a truck.

How far do you want to move it? Home Depot rents pick-up trucks for the day for like $19.95 or something like that.

You could also rent a pick-up from a regular car rental place.

Oh and Yes, you don’t want to lay the thing down.
