How do I open ".gdoc" files?

I used to write for a company that used google docs for all of my drafts. Before I left I nabbed all of what I did and threw them into a zip file so that I could use these pieces for my portfolio later on in life.

Somehow I can’t open any of the documents I saved. Each of them ends in “.gdoc” which I know is the extension for Google docs, but I’m literally in my Google drive trying to open them an I can’t. It doesn’t let me open them in docs and there aren’t any “suggested programs” to help me read them. Can someone help me open these documents? How do I read .gdoc files and why can’t I just open them now?

Apparently, a .gdoc file “contains a URL, which points to a Google Docs document stored in Google Drive”.

If you don’t have access to the Google Drive account where the file is stored, and the file isn’t shared, you probably won’t be able to open it.

Ugh. that’s what I thought/was worried about.

Thanks!
