How do I report telemarketing calls to my cell phone? (US)

In recent weeks, I’ve been getting recorded telemarketing calls to my cell phone number; usually, it’s along the lines of “your car warranty is about to expire”.

I know someone here will post “add your cell phone number to the national no-call list.” I just did. The point is that telemarketing to cell phones is illegal, and I want to report these fuckers and get them in the trouble they deserve.

Google was NOT my friend. I just found a bunch of pages with info about how telemarketers almost never call cell phones, it’s illegal (no shit!), and so on, but nothing about reporting telemarketing calls to cell phones.

So, who do I report telemarketing calls to cell phones to?

I’ve gotten those same calls. I’ve also gotten calls about foreclosure, which I’m not in. I am not in danger of being in it. PLEASE STOP CALLING MY CELLPHONE.

So I too, would love to know. The hard part is that if I don’t hear my phone, it rolls to voicemail, and the message left is cut off, and has no way for me to report it. If I DO answer the phone, there’s really no human to deal with either.

I get calls from “1-000-000-0000” on my cellphone and my home phone. Way to go, scammers. That’s not even a real phone number. You think putting a fake number on your caller-ID will make me trust you more?

I’ve found out how to stop annoying spam text message on my cell by replying with STOP or STOP ALL.
As far as the recorded voice telling you of an expired car warranty I have been getting the same one. If you listen to the message in full they do give you an option to stop receiving the calls by pressing some key. Hopefully they have stopped now.

That key is #2 and it is a scam. When you hit #2 it just hangs up on you and they keep calling. I eventually had to call back the number and wait through 20 minutes of menus and get a live person and have them transfer me to another department where they took me off their list. I haven’t gotten one of those calls since. It was worth the time it took so I don’t have to hear from them again.

Can’t help you with the US, unfortunately, since things on your side of the border are run entirely differently than they are here.

My assumption would be that you would escalate through the same agency that handles violations of the DNC list on your home phone (ie. if you had listed your home phone and were still receiving telemarketing calls from a particular company). You can also call your cellular provider and find out if they have any advice for you, since there’s a good chance that telemarketer is spamming everyone and they’ll have gotten complaints from other subscribers already.

I’ve given up and just started hitting the keys to talk to a human. I then say “Fuck off asshole, this is a cell phone!”. I doubt it is effective, but I hope it wears down those losers and makes me feel better about the situation.

I’ve written to my congresswoman to do something about it and she never responded.

I’m getting this one as well. I’m on do not call and it’s my cell phone.
After pressing ‘2’ to stop getting calls (it’s my last chance) three times. I finally gave up and pressed ‘1’ to talk to a person. So, let’s see.
I told him to remove me from their call list, they hung up. I reported todonotcall.gov

Second call, I told them, I’ve already reported them to the ftc. He told me to ‘fuck off’ and hung up on me. I reported to donotcall.gov

Third call. I thanked him for reminding me to report them once again to the ftc and he laughed and hung up. I reported again to donotcall.gov

Eventually I think they will shut this guy down. If enough people complain then it’s likely to speed this up. I’m pretty sure next time, I’m going to tell him I’m interested in getting a warantee so I can get the company name etc. It’s helpful when filling out the online form if you know this info.

I may attempt the same thing. Or tell him that I will be sending him a check for the warranty + $X and if he could be so kind as to forward the overage to my bank account in Nigeria.

This thread reminded me that I got these calls for months and then they stopped. I can’t remember the last time I got one. Yay, happy me.
