How do I Skype?

Unfortunately not an option, but yes, that would be preferable.

Aha! We were up and running but they couldn’t see me at the other end. They’re re-booting, but is there an icon I have to click to turn on my image from my end?

I think the little green light over the screen wasn’t on, so I wasn’t sending my video.

Found it. Little icon with video I had to click.

Well, the presentation went okay.

There are always glitches, but I found a room in the local courthouse library that had wi-fi.

Then the prof and his IT guy discovered that his laptop was missing the drive needed to carry the video. Audio was working fine, but the IT guy had to go get a different laptop to get the video, and then send it up onto the big screen in the. classroom.

But it worked! Two hour presentation over the interwebs!

I opened by telling the class that I had predicted to their prof the day before that there would be about 15 minutes of them sitting there, waiting for the old geezers to figure out Skype, and I was right. Got some laughs.

Thanks again, everyone, for the advice.

It could have been, equally free, developed by techs who were not sadistic. And an alternative still can be.

I’m getting so weary of webmasterbators who seem to take delight in sitting around saying “Dude, look what I just did to my page”. Like the one at SDMB a couple of months ago.

Isn’t that a sad world view? Assuming that the world is filled with evil people, in contrast to the view that oftn people fail to foresee possible negative outcomes or that one fix accidentally causes another issue.

When I first lived in Japan in the early 80s, it simply was far to expensive to call home for anything but an emergency. Something like $3.60 for the first minutes and then somewhat less for the next.

Now, I’ve got unlimited free PC to PC calls, pay a couple of pennies a minute for calls to phones and even have unlimited calls to anyone is the States, cell or land numbers for $3.00 a month.

Has an updated version of anything ever worked better, for your needs, than the one it replaced? Facebook keeps getting better and better, right? Firefox? Yahoo Mail? Were you ecstatic about Windows 8? Thereupon rests my sad world view.

Skype would almost certainly work better, though, if an infinite number of monkeys got their hands on it.
