How do I test 911?

I recently changed my landline telephone service to VOIP. On feature of the service I’m using (Ooma - I’m very pleased with it, BTW) is that it’s supposed to forward address information to 911. How do I test if this is true?

You could just dial it and see what happens, but then they may want to send a squad around to check on you anyways. My suggestion would be to call the non-emergency number first and ask them if it’s okay to do a test call. In my city, the same person answers both lines from the same desk, at least during off peak hours when there’s less staff in the building.

Seconding this.

I have to make periodic test calls for my workplace.

Find and call the non-emergency number and tell them you want to schedule a test-call for 911 to make sure your service works properly. You’ll probably have to give them your name, contact info, and possibly your address when you call the non-emergency number, and then confirm all that info when you do the actual 911 test.

If it’s a non-peak time, or a slow area for emergencies, they’ll probably tell you to go ahead and dial it immediately after you call them, but it’s always nice to ask for an appointment time in case they are busy. If so, they’ll tell you when to call back.

OK.
Thanks for the suggestions.
