My family has a scuppernong vine (actually two vines- one male, one female- growing together) that I would like to transplant or root because the property on which it grows has been sold and will be develped. I don’t think the vine will be saved.
Does anyone have any knowledge on how to move the vine? It’s a large old vine. Can I get cuttings or root it from runners?
I’ve never had good luck with transplanting muscadines (or scuppernongs). For that matter, most of my propagations from cuttings tend to fail if not carefully kept. If it wasn’t for the sentimental value, I’d suggest buy from a local nursery.
Call your local County Extension Office or state Department of Agriculture. They will definitely be able to give you more detailed information about transplanting in your area.
DeVena, I realize my efforts are probably in vain, but I can’t help at least to try. I’m waiting on an answer from my local county extension office. Hopefully that will give some insight, as well.
