I wasn’t referring to any specific landlord; sorry for the confusion. I meant a landlord in general that rents to illegals. I mean, I’m assuming you’re not making a blanket statement about all landlords who rent to illegals?
None of the illegals here that I’ve talked to (and I talked to a bunch) file for returns on their taxes. They just pay the whole taxes. I know this because for a while I was a manager at a business and I helped several illegals with their taxes. I admit I was surprised to see they were paying taxes in the first place but the more I talked to, the more I realized why the government doesn’t crack down on illegal immigration: they are making money off of a lot of them. Maybe all the illegals I knew were atypical, but I’ve talked to a few hundred people about this issue because it came as such a shock to me, a midwesterner who had only been told bad things about illegals, to see that the government can profit off of them.
Now, not all illegals pay taxes. Most of the the Middle Eastern and Asian students I knew that were working illegally were usually paid in cash or checks from the management’s bank account but they were often paid under minimum wage and worked part time for the period that they were in college.
On the other hand, the non-students, a few Middle Easterners and all of the Central and South American people I knew filled out tax forms and regularly paid money - much more money than I paid. They also took out loans. Several of my coworkers bought nice cars which they used loans to help finance. The loan companies call me and confirm that they worked there (since I was a manager). I can’t remember all the questions the loan companies asked, but it was usually a question of if they were employed, if it was a part time thing or long term, etc. The loan companies were all reputable businesses, they just charge extra for their illegal customers. Some of my illegal coworkers had insurance but others didn’t. The ones that didn’t still got loans and cars. I asked one of my coworkers without insurance what he would do if he got into an accident and he said that he would just pay it out of pocket.
As for driving up the health care costs - again, maybe the people I knew were atypical, but all of the ones I knew went to this clinic that allowed you to pay cash for everything. Me or another manager would take our employees there when they got injured or became sick. They paid a lot more for their medical care than I did for mine (I got mine through my college).
Oh, and since we are talking about illegals, some of the legals who are brought here are put into conditions that are like slavery. If I was trying to come to America and I had a choice between being owned by a company who treated me like shit or coming illegally and having the freedom to move between jobs I would sure be illegal.
