I recently setup a CashApp account to pay my Yard Service and other businesses. Many individuals aren’t setup to take a credit card.
I’m curious, how do they actually convert that money to Folding money in their wallet?
Do stores like Walmart, 7 Eleven, and Kroger accept CashApp payments?
It’s my understanding many people without Bank Accounts use CashApp. I setup my account to avoid using the ATM to pay my yard service. They stopped taking checks a few years ago.
The have a CashApp debit card which you can use in an ATM or to buy stuff at stores like other debit cards (it’s a Visa debit card):
Ok. I didn’t realize an ATM would accept a different banks debt card.
That means they can pay at Kroger with a CashApp card. Just like I do with my bank card.
Apparently CashApp is a real bank.
I’m slowly learning 21st Century finance.
Thanks
No it’s not a real bank but Cash App is owned and operated by Square, Inc. However, it partners with Sutton Bank as the issuing bank for its Cash Card, which is a Visa debit card linked to users’ Cash App balances. A lot of Fintechs and brokers partner with real banks for banking services; for example Fidelity partners with UMB Bank.
I understand now. That’s actually a good business setup.
I have a CashApp card. But I’ve never used it. I just pay people through the App. I keep a very small $100 balance. Add money as needed to pay someone.
A problem with a lot of the Fintechs is they don’t like to waste money on customer service staff. So if things go bad it is can be very difficult to get something fixed.
So I think one should use credit cards wherever they can be used (getting cashback rewards and paying off the balance in full every month), then banking type institutions, and fintech (such as CashApp or Venmo or Zelle) only when credit cards or banks won’t work.
I agree. I wouldn’t use a CashApp card at stores or online purchases. I have debit and credit cards for shopping.
But, there are people with credit problems that don’t have Bank accounts or credit cards. They use pre-paid cards. I imagine the Fees really add up.
