Anyone know? its been driving me nuts. Its like an animated line that shows up on the football field when u watch the game on TV (might just be college football, i dunno). Anyway, the football players appear to be walking over the line so its not just a simple animation superimposed, plus when the Camera moves that line stays in the right place.
So do they have sensors in the yard markers hooked up to some computer that controls this, or is there some computer device that creates a measures an exactly perfect grid and incorperates that into the TV broadcast or what?
Used to know a guy who was a technical evangalist type for SGI. Couldn’t discuss football with him without hearing about the SGI hardware that was used to render the yellow line.
Isn’t that so cool? 21st century technology may not have given us flying cars or spaceships or nutrition pills, but that yellow line is good enough for me.
I agree it’s very smart provided it’s used sparingly.
I don’t know about US sports, but over here the same technology is used to paint all sorts of stuff onto the field, such as club badges, distance lines from a kick to the goal or, gulp, advertisements.
