Oh, come on. It’s widely reported the porn business is ripe with criminal behavior. This is common knowledge.
And yes the students are involved. Their class room teacher makes pornos! They are very involved and it’s not fair they should have to be.
It looks like she won’t have problems with the student loans:
This is far from clear. She may never teach in Missouri again, or not in a public school again, but forever is a long time.
Lots of people make foolish choices. I’ve made more than a couple. Hell, writing on the SDMB while I’m at work isn’t the best choice. Your moral outrage aside, I’m sure she’ll find a way to move on.
I think after an initial awkward moment or two, everyone would get back to work.
No. For example, it’s legal to put on Klan robes and march down main street, but I would object to a Klan member teaching my kids. Unfortunately, it’s probably a good bet that there are currently Klan members teaching. I know when I lived in Memphis, we had Judges who were known to be KKK members.
If this happened, I would imagine no one would give it a second thought anymore. It would be pretty routine and no longer violate social norms.
I guess I value “question authority” more than “societal norms.” I having a hard time imagining what other social norms might cost a teacher their job. Wearing a bathrobe to work, perhaps, or using vulgar language. But outside of the school, these things shouldn’t matter.
Two years ago I was feeling particularly burned out in my profession. In a fit of annoyance, I sent my application in to teach 7th grade science in a not terribly well funded school system. I have 0 teaching experience, and haven’t been inside a classroom for nearly 2 decades. I was offered the job in the first 10 minutes of the interview. That’s how desperate the school was for a living body that spoke English.
All of this to say, I am fairly confident that if she wants to return to teaching, it would take her all of 5 minutes to find a job.
No, some busybody who chose to share the video brought it down on her, and society did the rest. And you mentioned “hiding their identity.” Yes, because otherwise she would have lost her job and faced some societal shaming, which she did anyway. Can’t win, I guess.
You know there’s a huge difference between setting up an account on OnlyFans and putting out your own content and the archtypical “Burbank California porn industry” right?
Now that I’m on break and have a minute- In an unrelated thread Beck didn’t know what pegging was. This would seem to indicate she knows even less about porn and the porn industry than I do- and I’m not holding myself out as a porn expert.
I may have missed this if it was covered. Are there any examples where such a teacher was not fired? What happened next? Was it a shit show or did it blow over in a week?
I ask because that likely decides it for me. I want to in the “mind your own business” camp, and say let ‘em do whatever they want on their own time that’s not inherently bad (another judgment call, I know).
But I also concede that may be naive. If teachers who aren’t fired almost inevitably become the center of a hot mess, I think I’d conclude, “We all suck that we can’t let this slide, but I guess we can’t.”
Oh almost forgot. To put it simply, I’m Chaotic Good. There should be few laws/rules and those rules should exist for a good reason. If it ain’t harming yourself or others, whatever floats your boat. Which is an ethical problem? Being naked on the internet or going to garage sales and paying pennies for an item I can resell at a massive profit later?
And you’re right I know very little about porn. I know there’s much criminal behavior associated with it.
The particular onlyFans site or whatever it’s called maybe clean. I dare say most people won’t ever believe that line of bullshit.
Oh, I didn’t know I had to to cite for my opinions.
I know bad behavior when I see it.
There’s no other way to say it.
The Teachers involved made bad life choices or decisions on a way to make quick money
It backfired.
What bullshit? I don’t know what criminal element there really is there except maybe not reporting your income. They have you fill out a W-9 and mail you a 1099. It’s basically gig economy homemade porn. Not much different than something like YouTube or Twitch except content and how you monetize it.
