How do we like Mutants & Masterminds?

Good point! I’m up for just about anything, so I’d like to hear too. ^^

By the by, GM, have you thought about what power level you’d like to run the game at? I changed my mind about my character and decided to make him into a scout/melee monster, so his STR and CON are probably going to be pretty close to the game limit.

A: Filing cabinets. B: They make the character somewhat more resistant to Drains: the drain of power points comes from the entire power, rather than any individual power in the set. So against a dedicated nullifier, well, they have to take out 80 points rather than 10. Bit of a harder task.

Ohhh, really? I might have an online game you’re interested in. I think i shall start a thread about it today…

Here we go - fair warning, it is not a traditional dice-based game. It is what we call ‘free-form’. But there’s more information in that thread.

I’m happy to go with a four-colour style game, because it’s always fun to have outlandish and impressively cheesy villains (especially if they manage to win ;)). Likewise i’m alright with a grim/gritty style, mainly because it tends to give more options as far as characters and the rp-ing side go.

So i’m fine with any choice, really. Power Level-wise, it depends what you’re going for. If you want to be a Justice League counterpart, probably 10. If you want to be new guys on the block, probably a bit lower than that, and a Teen Titans/Young Avengers kind would be somewhere around 7.

I’ll admit I’m not a -huge- fan of grim n gritty, but I’m willing to go along with it. JLA or Teen Titans / Young Avengers both sound fun.

Of course, the other question, and perhaps the more important one, is where / when / how are we going to do this? Omi and I have already been left out to dry on one RP campaign that was brought up here on the boards, so, while I dunno about Omi, I’m a wee bit gunshy.

Yea, the cock-up with Dio was kinda weird, but I’m definitely willing to give this one a try… is everyone alright with trying to use instant messaging again? When I’ve managed to get a whole group on at once it seems to work fine, and last time we tried this everyone but Dio managed to meet up at the agreed-upon time without trouble, so it might be worth a shot.

As for setting, I’d be happy to do JLA or TT/Young Avengers, although either way it might be best if I worked out an excuse for my guy to be a non-union helper, at least at first: assuming Rev signs off on the backstory, he’s going to be an extremely self-centered tech-head who became a hero because it “looked fun”.

IMing may be a bit problematic because of time zones. But i’d be willing to give it a try.

Just as a note on settings, I was suggesting JLA in terms of concept rather than universe, though i’d be ok to do either.

Oh yea, obviously… I’m assuming we’re all making unique characters, so cramming everyone into the actual JLA could be somewhat awkward.

Since we’ve been throwing around Teen Titans and JLA, it might be neat to try to get some features of both worlds by playing a fledgling league: that way we get (reasonably) mature characters, but they’d have little institutionalization and no experience working together, so you preserve the fun of building up your group’s prestige and so forth.

As for time zones, we might be able to work something out… I see that Rev is in London, so maybe we should try playing on weekends in the North American morning?

I’m good with fledglings, and my schedule is amazingly flexible, especially in the mornings. Lemme know what works for folks, and I’ve got like six or seven character ideas.

I’ve been thinking about picking up a copy of the rules, and probably will on the way home. I don’t know that I’d necessarily play in the proposed campaign–my weekend mornings are going to be pretty busy for a while–but I’m a walking backstory generator, if anyone wants help in that department.

In general, I am free (all in EST):

Saturday, from 9:30-11:30am and again from 3pm-whenever
Sunday, from 9:30am-3:00pm
Monday-Fri, from 10am-3pm

As for characters, Rev and I have basically agreed on what my guy is going to look like, so while I’ll reserve working out specific details until we’ve finalized our setting, I can say a lot about his design:

Meet Sylvain Basile, a French… well, something. He’s a brilliant, albeit self-taught scientist, who obtained most of his technical background by spending a good portion of his childhood running around the gigantic laboratory complex that both of his parents worked out of. Unbeknownst to them, at around age five or six, he wandered off and into a chamber that was, in retrospect, quite obviously being used as part of an experiment. He has never discovered (or for that matter, particularly cared to find out) what the purpose of the experiment was, but his encounter with the chamber imbued him with the ability to shift out of phase with the rest of the world (Rank 4 Insubstantial). Having acquired his talents at such a young age he quickly and thoroughly adapted to the new environment phased space brought him, and began to spend increasingly long stretches of time in this state. (This has resulted in giving him Immunity (Life Support), essentially allowing him to remain Ghosted for an indefinite period of time. He has also picked up Immunity (aging) recently, but he isn’t likely to notice that one for some time.)

A child who is seemingly impossible to restrain does not bode well for discipline, and Sylvain retains a somewhat juvenile attraction to thrill-seeking behavior to this day. As an adult such behavior manifested in his chosen profession, namely the commission of low-profile but extremely lucrative thefts, as well as the occasional contracted act of corporate espionage. He eventually grew bored of the activity and the lack of challenge it presented, however, and has recently taken to fighting crime, as it both “looks cool” and allows him to use his powers much more openly than his formerly covert work had.
In any event, Sylvain relies on Rank 4 Insubstantial (weakness: Sonic) as his primary defense, and he employs a weak force field and high constitution to guard against anyone who manages to circumvent his defenses. He has an absolutely abysmal Will save, but his Crafting and Knowledge skills might allow him to invent a one-off or Device to help with his defense if it proves to be an issue.

While he’s intended primarily as a thief and forward scout, with high points in conceal, disable device, computer, sleight of hand, and so forth, he employs a reasonably high-level Blast that is modified with Affect Corporeal, allowing him to fight effectively from his Ghosted state.

Oh yea, and he flies. Not well, mind you, but it’s certainly better than walking.

Sunday is shooting till noonish. Mon-Fri is work till 7, for me, EDT.

I’m not sure. Vaugely considering ‘The Incredible Iron Mage’, but you never know.

Hrm. Sunday mornings just -might- be good for me… I mean, you’ll have to put up with my asleep-ness, but in general, folks write that off as me being an idiot. You’ll adapt.

Don’t worry, I’m always an idiot. sunday mornings would work for me too, though.

Time zones are tricky for me. Isn’t sometime in the morning EST about the middle of the night over here? I can’t figure out if we’re backwards or forwards.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I think London is EST + 5, so if we wanted to try playing at, say, 12:00pm EST, that’d put us at around 5pm in London.

Ah, ok. Time zones I really do have trouble working out.

Oh yes: I suppose Sylvain may or may not have a secret identity yet, depending on our setting, but considering his Bad Physics theme I figure Manifold Density will be a sufficiently amusing superhero name.
