How do we like Mutants & Masterminds?

Rev, want me to toss my half-dozen character ideas your way? Then you can pick and choose what sounds interresting / playable for you?

Go for it.

Edit; Same goes for anyone else, too. If you have any mechanics/GM ruling questions, feel free to ask here or through PM/email.

Oh, in that case I have a quick ruling question: when we PMed about how Insubstantial and Flight interacted you mentioned that it’d probably be possible for my guy to enter low orbit for a period. Given that, approximately how high might he expect to go, and how long could he safely stay there? (I know he’s slow enough to make entering orbit a bad tactical decision, but it’s still good to know. ^^)

It was your Immunity (Life Support) and Flight that allows you to do that, the Insubstantial was in terms of “flying” through water. I would say that technically you could probably fly around in space proper pretty much indefinetly, but as you say your flight rank is enough that it’s pretty much not a good idea in travel terms. I would say i’ll allow it if used responsibly but I reserve the right to bean you in the back of the head with a satelllite if you abuse it.

Fair enough. I was just trying to preemptively head off something to the effect of:

Step 1: Party creates cunning plan to have Sylvain fly up and manually hack the weapon satellite while the rest of the team sneaks through the territory said satellite secures

Step 2: * Sylvain passes out before clearing the troposphere, only to be woken to the grisly sight of his party being massacred by the fully functioning and operational satellite *

By the by, could I ask people to post a little about the characters they’re considering? I ask because I’m trying to decide whether to keep Sylvain’s mediocre combat skills or remove them entirely in favor of support skills.

Just sent 5 character ideas to the address in Rev’s profile. Once he receives / reviews / critiques them, I’ll post here on what I’ll be putting together.

Okay, talked to the head hocho, and narrowed it down to three. Not sure which I’m playing just yet, need to think about it. Willing to take group input from other potential players.

Powerhouse: A jazz pianist in the 1920’s, he lived a fairly normal life, becoming an octagenarian. His grandaughter was a metahuman healer whose power grew with her love for whomever she was healing, and when 'house was shot in a drive-by, her powers kicked into overdrive, turning the clock back for him to when he was 18, and granting him tremendous physical strength, quickness, and self-repair.

Ghost Dragon- A martial artist and ‘chosen one’, Dragon knows only that the various signs of the chinese zodiac are all vying for power in the current campaign city. His own sensei was killed by Black Crane, and he suspects Silver Hare is out for its own ends only. Who are the others and what can they do? He is unsure.

Ghost-eye: Alvin Kelly was, as the song goes, literally born in the dreamtime. He wasn’t aware of it, however, as he was expelled into a physical form in a normal suburban family of australia. It wasn’t until he banished a demon attacking his family in adelade at age 13 that he realized anything was wrong. Luckilly, (insert campaign-specific mage here) found Alvin at that point, and has since tutored him in the magical arts. Due to his connection with the dream-time, Alvin specializes in spiritual connections, illusions, and has powers that, were they not mystical, would normally be considered ‘telepathic’. He also has a very extensive knowledge of the occult (as only a comic book magician can).
So, anyone see anything there they’d especially like to see / not see in the game?

I like the Ghost Dragon idea, but that’s mainly because I’ve watched far too many kung fu movies. As far as balance goes, I think any of the three would fit in just fine. ^^

E-S, you still with us? And is anyone else joining this shindig? It’s hard to have a super-team with only two people!

taps the microphone E-S? Anyone? Anyone else?

Just hoping this doesn’t go the way of the dodo, like the Shadowrun game did.

What? Hello! What?

Hurrah! Just wondering if you’d finished making your Mystic Arts guy?

Oh, sure. How does an Elementalist sound to you? PL 10, from the book. Er, the Book of Magic.

Mmm… but anything I do really winds up looking like Avatar to me.

How about an Infernalist? Full on, Son of Satan type. His mom got involved in some stuff she won’t talk about… and so did his dad. They got over it, and never mentioned it, nor the reason why they got out of the freaky sex thing they used to do. (Parents having sex. Oh, man. Brain aneurysm.)

Thing is, it was a satanic cult, and it worked, and… well… one day, John Ashford was banging on the drums and one of the drumsticks started turning golden and red and it grew into a trident and that’s when things got nasty.

For one, he had to buy a new Rock Band set. That’s expensive.

(The trident is only Easy To Lose during a scene, or via DM fiat. Unless someone actually imprisons it, if the trident is lost or broken, during downtime the ‘lost’ trident will shrivel into nothing, and the next time it’s needed, the nearest available pointy object will more or less jump into John’s hand and become a trident. The trident is, of course, the symbol of John’s temptation.)

I can swing the reality factor up and down from anywhere from 1940s (could be pretty graphic, pre-code) to 1960s (spandex and no actual mention of the devil, make it an alien power) to 1970s (Lofty speeches about lost hope) and 80s to 1990s (grim and grit, bones cracking) to, well, whatever. Could work well.

Huh, that could be interesting! It sounds like we have a nice set of motivations, too: an altruist, a diabolist, and an extremely apathetic French guy. ^^

Gah, I just realized that if we really wanted to challenge cliche, we could make a rock band: if Arr plays the jazz pianist and I re-allocate a few points to give Sylvain an instrument.

I must admit, the super-powered rock-band is a really tempting idea… Again, though, may wanna run it past our friendly-neighborhood GM…

Of course, getting the GM’s opinion comes first. But I think Sylvain’d make a rad guitarist. ^^

A rock band/team of superheros is fine by me. Flesh it out a bit amongst yourselves and with your character creation and i’ll be happy to work with it on this end.

Well, for simple security reasons, it might be a good idea for our band to be a second identity: it wouldn’t be too expensive to add one or two ranks of Morph to instruments, and it’d go a long way towards preventing the bad guys from slaughtering our fans in mid-concert.

Why not start off with simply being a pickup band? No reason we have to know anything about each other. Funnier that way, too.

So, being the drummer, what’s the bad word on location, era, and general tone?
