Yeah, but Trisk would like to recover the silver one as intact as possible. If it was just a question of cycling the pistol, he could do that against a standard range backstop. Good luck finding the bullet after that. The tricky part is to fire the argent round and recover it with as little damage as possible.

Well, here is the plan, so far.

Three trashcans, all with stacks of newspaper, about nine inches thick, dry. Fill with water, wait about eight hours. Dump the water; stack the papers neatly in a 27-inch high stack, in a strong plastic trash bag. Wrap it up, and tie it well with cotton string. Shoot through the front page, straight up, hitting all three times, across the page. (Resting supported position, from fifteen feet, this should be fairly easy to accomplish.)

This sucker is going to be heavy, so I might wait and assemble it on site. The range I usually use is leery of any experimentation, especially with stopping rounds short of the bullet trap at the end of the range. So, I am going to enlist the assistance of a friend who is a member of the NRA, and uses their range. It’s outdoors, and they have let him use non-standard targets before. Failing permission to do that, I will have to go out into a friends place in the country, and just set it up in the woods, using a creek bank as a backstop. (It’s not illegal in most of Virginia to shoot out of doors, on your own land.)

What I hope to have is a complete set of data to factually answer all the people with opinions about how silver bullets perform compared to fmj lead bullets. I am going to measure penetration. I hope to get photos of the slugs as recovered, and the cavities in the newspaper gunk. I will also have a fairly good measure of how the newspaper gunk works at stopping bullets. I will also clean the pistol barrel well before, and inspect for any silver residue in the barrel afterwards.

I will keep the spent silver round as a keepsake, to show folks. If it is significantly distorted I will claim to have dug it out of a body, after it changed back from wolf form.
