How do you decide when it's time to get rid of your vehicle?

I replaced my 14 year old Saturn with over 150K miles when the mechanic said fixing it was not worth it. I replaced my next car, a Prius, after ten years when the repair estimate was well over the value of the car. But I think I could have gotten it fixed for less, but getting a new car was worth it for the safety features which are far more important to me as I age. I’ve never needed automatic braking, but I’m glad it’s there.

Mileage is not going to be an issue ever, since I no longer commute.

Our older car, a 2006 Honda CRV which we bought in October 2006, has 186K miles on it, It just needed about 1500 dollars in brake work. I don’t know if the car is worth that much - but otherwise it’s been okay. Next really big bill though….. hopefully it’ll last another year or so, as we have about that long on the loan on our “new” car.

Get rid of a vehicle?? I don’t think I understand the question.

People ask why I have 22 cars. I tell them its because I haven’t got the 23rd one yet.
