How do you find a certain book online?

I have The 1000 Year Plan by Isaac Asimov First Ace edition printed in 1951.(Paperback)

For the love of god I cannot find it anywhere online…I searched databases until I was seeing double.

I THOUGHT I knew how to search but I know this cannot be THAT rare so why cannot I find it?

Try www.bookfinder.com. They have a bunch of copies of it.

This is the first paperback edition of Asimov’s novel Foundation, which was published in 1951. However, the paperback was published in 1955 by Ace. It comes in two versions, a Special Edition (Ace D-110 SP) with just the Asimov novel and the regular version as part of Ace Double Novel D-110 backed with Poul Anderson’s No World of Their Own. There was also a later edition, Ace D538, from 1961.

“The 1000 year plan” is the short story that led to the book “Foundation” (and is sometimes listed as “Foundation”). The Ace printing was a “Double” with a Poul Anderson story. Here’s an entry from Used Book Central found in Google’s cache. So, not rare enough to jack up the price beyond $4.

Before I even posted here I tried all these book sellers and many more besides.

This is the closest I have come to my book…this is from Pandoras Books:

Asimov, Isaac. 1,000 Year Plan. [Science Fiction] Also released as: Foundation. Ace, #D-538, [1961]. (Paperback) Very good. Abridged.(9.00)

This SOUNDS like MY book but there is only ONE date in the front of MY book and that is 1951…could this be in actuality the same book? It has the same number(D-538) but why doesn’t it have the later date with the copyright info? Mine does not say it was reprinted other than “based upon published material originally copyrighted by Street & Smith Publications, Inc.” and no other date.

So what edition do I have? The 1951 or 1961 one?

Bleh

The book number is the only thing that counts. You have the 1961 edition. In those days, paperback publishers often used only the original publication date and omitted the reprint date. There never was a 1951 paperback edition.
