How do you get banned? Just cuirous...

Isn’t it great watching a pro in action? Go Lynn!

Decide what instrument suits you best, guitar, bass, drums or even singing. Find people that are interested in the same music you are. It helps if they’re talented, but heart is more important than talent in the beginning. After you’ve got 12 or so songs down good, hit some open mike nights if you can find them. If you live in the sticks, start throwing parties and invite as many people as you can to listen to you. At this point, you’ll either start to gain momentum or you won’t. Put together a press kit (demo/picture/write-up) and start hitting clubs. If you get a decent local following (200+ people) you will probably start attracting labels, most likely a local/indie label. Don’t sign a long contract!. The road to musical success is strewn with the bodies of those who couldn’t get out of shitty contracts and ended up broke and stinking like trouble to future potential labels (see: Hank Williams III). When the big boys (RCA/Capitol/etc) come knocking, make sure you have a good entertainment lawyer to get the best deal possible. Make sure it’s good in the short term because, let’s be honest, nobody is going to want to hear your shit after 3 or 4 albums anyway, in most cases. After that, be cooperative with VH1 when they do your behind the music, 'cause they can be really mean if they don’t like you.

You’re welcome.

Playing music gets you banned?
