How do you get listed in the Social Register

My name is Joseph Yerkes Jeanes II, born in Bryn Mawr, PA. I was listed in the Philadelphia Register as the son of Isaac Warner Jeanes II and Frances Parham (Jeanes). My parents were deathly ill and I was in California during my parents illnesses. Due to a hostile takeover of my family interest, I was not invited to either of my parent’s funerals. I loved them as a child. As an adult, I was very curious as to how a hostile takeover of my birthright could occur. The family was so rude, they said “I took their name”. I simply changed it to Joseph Matthias Zao. It was one of those moves that a family can make when you give them a full trust. If I had never assigned the trust to them in Virginia, my Philadelphia portion would have passed without contest. I later returned to Arch Street in Philadelphia in 2012 and made my case at Quaker Society meeting. It was witnessed and Mr. Craddock head of the society said to me “what is your Grandfather going to do with all that money”? I laughed and said “my inheritance is in Jesus Christ - my family left me on a bicycle in California”. I love the USA but I can never understand Virginia law… they just failed the bar.

I was listed in the Philadelphia register as Ike’s son stationed in Camp Lejeune. I think they left the rank as Major General for intelligence stripping purposes.

Welcome to the Straight Dope Message Boards, Joseph, thanks for an interesting post. Couple of things:

(1) It’s helpful to other readers to provide a link to the column in question. I assume it’s How do you get listed in the Social Register? - The Straight Dope … no biggie, but it saves search time and helps avoid repetition. You’ll know for next time.

(2) You’ve given an awful lot of private information in a public forum. If you’d like me to edit out some of that stuff, please email me and let me know what to pull out, and I’d be glad to do that. Public info is… well, public info.

Anyhow, as I say, welcome!

Dexter,

Thank you for the reply on 08-09-2014. You may as well delete everything I said. I found out that I am listed. My Father is a great person, he had a very odd final in the small burg of Orange, VA and his wife, Frances, was negative beyond reason. For some reason or other, I was never told how powerful my father was. Since I was his son, it was almost a William Blake the poet final, “If Jesus could have been Satan to get you out of Hell, he would have been."

This is from ancestory.com - my Mother was so NEGATIVE that I had to change my name, she played a wicked deck of cards, https://www.ancestry.com/family-tree/tree/28443047/media

WOW!

Really, Joe, if you have to ask you don’t belong. I thought that was obvious, climber. :rolleyes classic:

I hear that. It’s good to find comfort is religion, or whatever else, from the fleeting problems the world provides. The consolations of philosophy.

What is the Quaker equivalent of a Wandering Bishop, I wonder?
