How do you get your dose of adventure?

I like road trips and camping. I’d really like to drive around America on a motorcycle some day, but I’m too busy with school for that now. Traveling to other countries is also high on my list.

I know for sure when I graduate I’m going to hike the Appalachian Trail with my best friend. That’s 6 months of adventure waiting for me.

For now though, I’m limited to trying exotic foods and walking around in areas of Philadelphia that I haven’t been to.

How do you get your adventuring fix?

I’m a camper and a fly fisher too. You ain’t having fun till you’re wiping your ass with a bunch of leaves or getting the really nice Queen of Waters you just made permanently stuck on a seaweedy rock.

I was camping in Northern Ontario once in the middle of nowhere when a tornado hit. That was fun. And by fun I mean the most terrifying, oh-god-I’m-gonna-shit-my-pants-and-die day of my life.

Well, in March I’m going to Libya  to see the next total eclipse of the sun.

For adventure I pretty much stick to flying airplanes

I go to work.

I fire up my Atari 2600.
What?

I don’t.
Historically, “excitement” meant being invaded, raided by Vikings, mauled by wild beasts, etc.

Boredom is therefore the greatest achievement in modern civilization.

By living in Beirut.

You win.

I order perfumes online.

WITHOUT EVER SMELLING THEM FIRST!! collective gasp

Go swimming in a nuclear reactor.

I strap napalm to my nads and skip rope.

I adventure race. Some samples here and here. Race reports here.

I also drive fast. The roads in England provide quite a challenge for moving quickly from A to B, and not just in traffic. No tickets yet, either!

Finally, I snowboard, scuba dive, and mountain climb as much as I am able. But I usually have to go away for that.

Went skydiving a bunch of times. Planning to do more of that once time frees up. It’s loads of fun, and makes for excellent party conversation. Also bragging rights.

By dating.

That’s so cool. I was going to go to Germany to see the total eclipse in 1999, but events and a lack of money conspired to stop me, so I had to make do with a partial one.

It was cloudy, too.

Got married. Had kids. Now the adventure never stops.

Racing motorcycles and skydiving pretty much do it for me.

If I had the Time/Money, I would definitely take up flying again (I’d rather land the plane than jump out of it!), and I’d love to race the Tecate Score Baja 1000 and the Isle of Man TT.

Good place for a Doper party??

Mountain biking. jumping logs, drops, climbs, bridges…Have pretty good stuff here in Wisc, but need to go west sometime soon.

Whitewater kayaking. I’m solid on Class 4 and have done some Class 5.0

High pucker factor!
