How Do You Know Which Zodiac Sign Is Really Yours?

What happens when you are born on a cusp? How do you decide which is your real sign?

Thanks

No, unless you were born at midnight, there are no cusps, as evidenced by this listing.

Pick the one you like best. Not like there’s anything more reliable or scientific with the “official” method.

If you were born on one of the “cusp” days, go look at your birth certificate to find your exact birth time and place. Then go to astrology.com and get your custom chart. This will tell you what your sun sign is. The signs do not change at midnight–they change at various times of day.

Flip a coin.

Midnight is sort of subjective as well, especially if you were born before standard time zones were established. When I was born, every county in Indiana still could chose to establish time so that noon was when the sun was at its peak. I think they still do that in Arabia.

Actually, due to precession, your sign according to your birthdate is NOT correct. I don’t know in which direction through the signs to move, but in the thousands of years since the astrological charts were first constructed, the sun no longer rises in the same house during the same dates. So, if you really, truly believe the stars rule, go do your homework

Actually, giving the example of Leo, the sun-in-Leo bit has shifted from July21/2 to August 4, or thereabouts. Still tons of the old Leo time left before you’ve got to start thinking about being a Cancer or Virgo. I’m August 10, so still just squeak in to be under a sign I’m incredibly not like.

You know, as an astronomer, I also once took great glee in thinking that even the top astrologers simply didn’t have their act together. However, I’ve come to realize that despite what astrology is ultimately about, the people in charge of it understand the living crap out of ephemerides, better than most astronomers, I think. Astrology accounts for precession by use of zodiacal ages.

Not only precession, but, the sign are not equal in “size” so the time assigned to each is also wrong.

I also read someplace that there are 13 constellations (not signs) in the “circle” created by the sign constellations.

Great question. Since my birthday is Oct. 24, I’m technically a Scorpio but on the “cusp” between Libra and Scorpio. (I don’t buy astrology as an influencing or a determining factor for a minute, since a person can read the chart for ANY of the signs on any given day and make the statements fit their life half the time. Still, it’s an interesting conversation topic.) I did read part of Linda Goodman’s Sun Signs because my wife has a copy, and I possess a huge number of the traits of both Libra and Scorpio–more toward the Libra side. (Which is fine, since I detest extremes. >:^D) I wonder if a large percentage of others who are on the cusp exhibit this same phenomenon of sharing traits from both signs.

The specific date I am looking for is Feb 19th at 7:52AM. My computer crashes at the astrology site. I don’t know if this is a Pices or not.
Any help?

When you “notice” that you have these traits, don’t you just think you’re doing exactly what you said people fall for? Everyone possesses a huge number of the traits of both Libra and Scorpio.

Correct. But my sister still refuses to accept that she was born under the sign of Ophiochus.

They also offer free charts. You will need the location of your birth as well. My birthday is on April 20th, which makes me a Taurus very near the cusp with Aries. In fact, I’m only 3 degrees into Taurus (which you can see when you have your chart). You NEED to have your specific chart done if you’re near any cusp. Some years April 20th is Taurus, sometimes it’s Aries. Depends on the year, the time, and the location of birth. Being a cusp, I think I tend to demonstrate the traits associated with both signs. I’ve also seen this with other ‘cusp’ folks. They just tend to not match the stereotypical picture of the sign, and lean more toward their neighbor sign.

BTW - your ‘sign’ commonly refers to you ‘sun’ sign. While this is the most talked about part of astrology, it is not all there is. Think of it more as Pop Astrology. Your ‘rising sign’ and ‘moon sign’ are also very important to your makeup. In fact, every planet’s position effects you. Some astrologers even take it further, using extra solar objects, comets, and such. Try telling an astrologer that you don’t believe in it because the newspaper never matches you, and they’ll happily tell you about all the other factors that effect you and your chart.

According to alabe.com I was born just on the Virgo side of the Leo/Virgo cusp (less than a degree off), and all of my planets except Mars and Jupiter are in Libra/Leo/Virgo. The write-up I get on what all this means is dead-on in some ways and way off in others. Maybe there’s a comet that’s not on the chart that’s throwing things off.
