How do you mount a Garmin?

OK, I have a Garmin Nuvi 1690 from work (just the unit, no mount)
I’m gong to go on a trip so I need a mount. I ordered the bean bag mount that Garmin makes from Amazon.
As you can see in the picture the mount ends in a ball mount.
The back of the unit is smooth.
I don’t see a bracket listed on the Garmin website, so I go cruising for a mount at Amazon. I find this one and order it.
The stuff came in yesterday.
The bracket has a recess in the back for a small ball. The ball on the end of the beanbag is way larger than the hole in the back of the bracket. The back of the bracket is set up to accept a flat bracket that would screw to the back if the part that holds the unit. It came with screws but no flat bracket, so I can’t attach it to the mount.
How the #*&^&(#$%^ do I get the nav system to mount to the Garmin mount?
There has to be a very simple answer I am overlooking.

Here’s the owner’s manual for that model. Pages 2 and 3 show how the unit is mounted to a cradle. The cradle has the socket that attaches to the ball.

I believe this replacement cradle is what you need to get.

Very slowly, from behind.

Huh-huh. Huh-huh-huh. Huh-huh. Huh-huh-huh-huh.

Thanks. I could not get the manual to download yesterday, so I was missing that important link.
Odd that Garmin doesn’t list that cradle as a replacement part on their website.

With lots of lube?

What you did there is to mix/match Garmin and Ram Mount products. In the future I would advise just going with Ram Mount. They have a much more versatile line of mounting solutions.

Problem I was trying to order from Amazon and the selection is well spotty.

Ram mounting is just kinky!

To hell with Amazon.

Personally I think Ram Mounts are overkill for most applications. The Garmin mount is much more compact and perfectly adequate for car use.

It won’t give you the ability to rotate it in all angles, but Velcro tape might work.

I was unable to find a Garmin cradle but I found an aftermarket clamp mount with suction cup that will work.

That won’t work. You can’t sneak up on a Garmin. It knows where you are.

I got one of those bean bag mounts for my Garmin. It rocks!

Whichever way you do it, just be sure to get his/her/its consent.

I’ll do that.
