This is worse than Candy Crush.
Best I’ve done so far is a 512 and 2 256s at the same time. Best score 6968.
My best is a 1024 and 2 512s but I couldn’t merge them. My son says he’s won once and suggests the strategy is to keep your highest numbers in one corner to the extend you can.
Anyone have any other strategy ideas?

Here’s a good post on some AI heuristics used in one automated solver. You can apply the same ideas.
This was very helpful. Thanks. My results have been better and more consistent as well. My best score now is 11,928.
The two tips I’m applying are to try to keep the highest number tile in a corner and have the values cascading doutward from there and to focus on joining 2s and 4s and letting the higher numbers take care of themselves. It’s hard not to succumb to temptation and join those 2 128s as soon as you can, though!
I got the 2048! Twice even.
You can keep playing after you get it, by the way. My highest score was over 26,000.

I’m seriously addicted to this game now. Today, I was very stoked since I finally formed a 1024 tile and foolishly thought victory was nigh. As it turned out, no victory but a score of 10,100. Little victories, little victories.
Got it! 2048, second-highest 512, total score 26840.
