Whoops, I voted “muzz-lim” but yeah, it’s actually U as in “book”, as others have said.
Shar-Day
Yes
This. Which has the advantage of being correct.
Using a “z” sound is an abomination.
I answered that the first syllable rhymes with fuzz.
However, the “Moslem rhymes with “schnozz-lim.”” might make sense…25 years ago, before the word “Muslim” was in most Americans’ vocabulary, that’s how I always heard it pronounced (although it was rare to hear it at all). I had a Muslim classmate in the 4th grade and that was probably the only time I’d ever heard it mentioned until the Gulf War.
Ooh, I think I just got an idea for a buddy cop show set in Saudi Arabia.
I voted Other, as I pronounce the S as an S: Moose-lim.
muzz-limb
Mooz-lim. Is it a regional thing? I’m in Australia, and the only people I’ve heard say “Muzz-lim” are people on TV from Britain or America. A Scottish-Australian friend also says “Mooz-lim” but she’s been here long enough that her pronounciation may have changed over the years.
22 1/2 hours and no one has said “Throatwobbler Mangrove” yet?
A la jjimm and Ludovic, which is to say, your poll options suck.
